Hunt #3 - September, 1999

The unplanned expedition
Location:
Leeds Point, NJ

Crew:
Laura K. Leuter, Mike McLeer, Shawn Vogel

It was about 1am when Shawn, Mike, and I decided that we were going to spend our night out in Leeds Point - this time not searching for the house, but actually looking for all the weird paranormal things that supposedly go on in that particular area. Along with us came our other friend Mike, a fellow co-worker. Once again we packed up Shawn's car (this time with a lot less equipment) and traveled to the infamous site.

This trip was VERY strange... Maybe it was late, maybe we were tired, or maybe it was just the fact that we were all spooked, but it seemed that a few eerie things happened.

On our last trip, we were accompanied by our friend Tony. Tony was a resident of Leeds Point for some time, and told us of the strange tales and experiences he had heard of while living there. One of his stories was an account of a burning tree - supposedly, if you drive down this particular road, back the car into a particular spot and turn off the lights, the tree you see directly in front of you appears to be burning. We had to see this for ourselves, of course! What did we find? It's true. The tree does in fact appear to be burning. We dismiss it to the fact that there's an orange streetlight and a few birch trees behind it, but this little pine does appear to have glowing embers coming from the inside. Check it out for yourselves sometime!

One of the first things we noticed that was strange was how overgrown the entire area was. We had returned to the exact spot of our last house hunt, yet this time it was amazingly overgrown. It hasn't been even a month since our last expedition, yet the trail was filled with these large overhanging branches that almost appeared to be dead. We were shocked.

So there we were, sitting in the car, the four of us laughing and talking while staring at this tree. Suddenly, we heard what sounded like a low grumble - kind of like someone saying "errrrrr" in a very low growl, similar to a stomach. I turned to Mike, thinking he had done it to spook me, but he just looked at me with a blank stare and swore that it wasn't him. Shawn had also heard this noise, and threw the car into drive and took off to the local Wawa. At the Wawa, Shawn got out of the car and looked at the rear door behind his seat. One of his antenna wires was knocked out of place. Now, we all admit that this could very well have happened when one of us got into the car. Nevertheless, we were spooked.

But of course, being the Devil Hunters, we went back for more. Some freaky tree movement, a few fluttering bugs... but otherwise quiet. At one point, we were standing in the cemetery, and heard this strange, high pitched squeal, but it turned out to be just a local rooster waking everyone up. This Devil Hunt was the first of many to come. Unfortunately, since this had been planned so quickly, we didn't bring any of our real equipment with us. But don't worry, next time...
